Pour mon dernier film, j’ai choisi un hôte couchsurfing qui me semblait habiter à la campagne, dans un petit village. C’est du moins l’impression que j’avais en consultant Google Maps. Malheureusement, il s’agit en fait de la grande banlieue de Macon. Le modèle typique américain: plus on s’écarte de la ville plus les maisons sont espacées, … mais c’est toujours la ville. Pas de petit village ou de hameau avec une église, une école et une mairie, juste un centre commercial qui fédère un peu le coin. C’est raté pour l’atmosphère rurale ! Même après trois mois, j’ai du mal à accepter l’idée qu’en général, l’organisation spatiale de la société étasunisienne est fort différente de la nôtre.
Tout ça pour dire que (et c’est la dernière fois que j’emploie cette expression), je me retrouve dans une superbe maison dans un jardin immense, mais coupé de toute vie de voisinage, de “gens du coin”. Bien que l’on soit tout entouré de plein d’autres villas et jardins tout aussi classe. La ville est à près de quarante-cinq minutes en voiture, y a pas l’ombre d’un train ou d’un bus pour la rejoindre, et je n’ai donc que les déplacements professionnels de Jacob, mon hôte, pour bouger et trouver mon film.
En fait, j’ai surtout beaucoup misé sur un super sujet (le thème est “samedi soir”): son oncle qui vient de sortir de prison. A quoi ressemble le samedi soir de quelqu’un qui doit reconstruire son réseau social à zéro ? Ca me semblait parfait. Pendant plusieurs jours, c’était à deux doigt de se faire, pour finalement avoir un non définitif. J’aurais dû prévoir un plan B, mais je ne l’ai pas fait.
